IODINE AS A DISINFECTANT
For many people, iodine is most familiar as a disinfectant. Traditionally, mothers put iodine on small scrapes. And hospitals today use iodine-based products as disinfectants.
Gottardi is world recognized for his work on iodine disinfectants, as well as iodine aqueous chemistry. He sees iodine as an excellent microbicide with a broad range of action that includes almost all of the important health-related microorganisms, such as enteric bacteria, enteric viruses, bacterial viruses, and protozoan cysts.
Thomas has written extensively on iodine and e-coli.
Kessler discusses Symbollon's unique iodine disinfectants, based on a process that provides molecular iodine upon admixture. This is a similar process to the one underlying IoGen, which is being tested for breast issues.
Iodine is sometimes used as a disinfectant in swimming pools.
